International Monitoring Program 2016

To kick off the monitoring visits for the year 2016, the Monitoring team of the Earth Island Institute Asia Pacific went to Malaysia and Indonesia for the first batch of annual audits and accreditation applications. Among the companies visited were KMC Malaysia in Malaysia, and PT. Karunia Bintang Samudra, PT. Pahala Bahari Nusantara, and PT. Bali Tuna Segar in Indonesia.

The monitoring team checks the companies’ facilities and documents to ensure that the companies follow the dolphin-safe standards in every step of the way. This is to make certain that the tuna and tuna products that get to each consumer’s table is dolphin-safe.

The traceability work the monitoring team does requires careful inspection from source to market. This means that the team must be able to determine the chain of custody from the raw material to finished product.
